Facts about the Windows 10 Auto Update

Today I am writing a post about the Windows 10 auto update. There have been several customers of mine in the last few weeks that have had an issue where Windows 10 automatically updated on their system with no warning at all. Some have felt violated, and voiced anger towards Microsoft because of this. Here are the facts.

1. You are allowing it.
By having your automatic updates on Microsoft is sending the Windows 10 update to your 7 or 8 installation.
2. You will have to update your system at some point.
Lincoln Spector in PC world issues August 2014 stated that windows will stop supporting Windows 7 in January 2020. So you have about 3 and half years to make any decisions. And if you have Windows 8 you have until January 2023, so another almost 7 years on that.
3. All your files will be OK, but no guarantees on your apps.
Now I have had some issues with the update losing some things the big issues is that your applications may not work. This is my biggest concern with the auto update. If you are going to update have a professional do it for you.
4. You can stop it.
There is a patch out there called "Stop 10" and it works great. I am not going to link it, you can look for it, because if you are not a professional you should not run it. Have a professional install this patch. It will stop any type upgrade on your system, which you may not want, unless you know what you are doing.
5. Ultimately it is your choice.
Microsoft is not forcing you per-say but they are pushing their user towards Windows 10. But you do not have to update you can decline, and you can have a professional roll you back to Windows7 or 8 if you have already upgraded. What this comes down to is Microsoft is trying to get more money. They have a lot of paid advertisers that have their Apps inside of 10 and the new push towards office 365 (which I will have to write a review on at some point) is all about getting money from you the user.

Be aware of the changes please do not live in fear. If you have questions I will be happy to help.
