You have been scammed!

Imagine yourself browsing the internet just as you are now and the phone rings. The conversation will go something like this. *Ring* You: "Hello?" Caller: "Hello this is Microsoft calling you, our system indicates that your computer is infected with viruses" You: "Oh, no! are you serious? What, how? What do I do? Caller: "I can help you get rid of the virus" You: "Really? Oh wow I am glad you called then! Caller: "Yes first who do I have the pleasure of talking to today?" You: "This is (insert your name, we will call you Sue" Caller: Ok thank you Sue, are you in front of your computer? Keeping your business secure

Image
You rely on technology to run your business. God be with you when the technology you need so much works against you. Even greater the travesty when an employee uses technology against you. Technology is fantastic, I love working with and configuring technology. You are very aware of outside attacks coming from hackers, malware, viruses and so on. Are you aware of the internal threat in your organization? Weather blatant or by mistake employees can cause huge security issues for your company. It can be easy access to company funds or accidentally installing a piece of malware that will steal the password to your online banking. These are all things that you must think through and create plans and policies to make sure you are protected. What are some action items to be sure your technology works for you not against you?  Train employees in security principles Protect information, computers, and networks from cyber attacks Provide firewall security for your Internet connec...

Rasomware what is it?

After much talk of the Wanna cry rasomware epidemic I am surprised by the misinformation of what is Rasomware. We are all familier with kidnapping. Someone is snatched and held until the price is paid for their release. The same is true for your computer. A malicious person sends you an email with a link you click that causes you to download a script. That script when downloaded is programmed to take all the pictures of your wedding or babies 1st birthday party and lock them virtually. You will not be able to unlock them with out a special password. You will be contacted by the malicious script writer. And they will offer the password for a price. What to do if this happens to you Do not pay the money. Consult with an IT professional. Many rasomware scripts are not well made and can easily be removed by a professional. Prevent Ransomware, read my post on prevention. Need help with Rasomware? Contact me today Nate@datacomtechnologies.net

Dear Moms

I have been a Dad for the past 13 months and 8 of those months I have spent the better part of my days with my Son Cameron. So please understand if you do not know that the following comes from a genuine place and some experience. When I came up with the great idea that I would watch my son and work from home I did not know it would be so hard! So I have compiled a list of the top things I respect you moms for doing! 1. Getting in and out of the car I remember the days of jumping in the car and running down the street jumping out and having no thought as to anything else. Leaving the house takes planning sometimes the night before. I have to shout out to my Wife here, she often helps me make sure I have everything I need the night before. These days trips are planned. What time is nap? What time is lunch? Where is Lunch? Should I pack him lunch or will I make it home before he turns into a screaming little monster because cheerios are not doing the trick. Let me get back to gettin...

Apple wants to put me out of business pt 2 Aftermarket Parts

If you read my last blog and you should have if not go read it. I talked about how Apple is working to put small businesses such as mine out of business. Here is another angle that I alluded to but did not get into. Apple says your warranty will be voided if you get your phone/ tablet repaired with me. Not true! Thank you FTC for clarifying this. I will link a great article at the bottom after I explain it in layman's terms. You want to repair your phone or have me do it, no problem it will in no way void the warranty of the device. However if the part you replace in turn destroys the device then the warranty will be voided, however by simply replacing a screen or battery with a replacement you are not in any way voiding a warranty regardless of any contract you sign. Also it is up to Apple to determine that the part you used to repair your device actually hurt any other part of that device. There are 3 things you should look for in a repair business 1. A repair center with a ...

Apple wants to put me out of business

Apple wants to put me out of business Apple and every other major manufacturer of consumer goods has an invested interest in keeping small businesses like mine,  from succeeding. Just last year Apple lobbied the Nebraska State Legislator to block a bill that has been introduced to allow shops like myself to purchase Apple parts and schematics. Sounds like a good deal for Apple right? Well actually Apple has a better deal now. Aplle intends to block shops and businesses like mine from having access to parts and schematics so they can monopolize the market. Apple sells you the device and then in turn if it breaks they are the only place you can get it repaired. Secondly they also say that we as 3rd party repair centers are in some way violating your warranty when we repair your device. Also they have gone on to insult repair centers and DIY'ers saying to open a device it is "to dangerous". They site that you could cut your fingers on the broken glass or cause the batt...
