Apple wants to put me out of business
Apple and every other major manufacturer of consumer goods has an invested interest in keeping small businesses like mine, from succeeding.
Just last year Apple lobbied the Nebraska State Legislator to block a bill that has been introduced to allow shops like myself to purchase Apple parts and schematics.
Sounds like a good deal for Apple right?
Well actually Apple has a better deal now.
Aplle intends to block shops and businesses like mine from having access to parts and schematics so they can monopolize the market. Apple sells you the device and then in turn if it breaks they are the only place you can get it repaired. Secondly they also say that we as 3rd party repair centers are in some way violating your warranty when we repair your device.
Also they have gone on to insult repair centers and DIY'ers saying to open a device it is "to dangerous". They site that you could cut your fingers on the broken glass or cause the battery to explode. All this is a smoke screen to convince lawmakers to allow them to continue their monopoly of the market. I am picking on Apple as they are the biggest offender and they also have the most popular devices on the market. Apple is not the only corporation trying to do this. In fact John Deere is working hard to keep the same thing from happening with their highly popular products.
Apple has done very little more than be a huge corporation that sells phones and other devices in your community. Where do you see Apple stores? In the highly affluent market places only. You don't see them in small towns where your repair shops are located. Apple does not seem to understand that by pushing out the small guys they in turn hurt all of their customers. If there were no repair shops in the rural communities customers would be forced to drive sometimes 100s of miles to an Apple store. Or have a new phone sent to them costing them more money.
Why doesn't Apple just have the repair centers become dealers or authorized repair centers. While that program does exist it puts a great burden on you as the consumer. Apple charges a premium on all OEM parts. And to be an authorized repair center would spell certain doom to local shops.
There is so much more on this topic I will be writing a series and keeping you updated on the right to repair act as it continues to happen.
Shop local use your local repair shop, that supports a local family or families.
