Reflection on one year

So you may not know this but as of Dec 9th (this Friday), my company (my other baby in many ways) DataCom Technologies LLC is a year old. A history in brief is to follow. The Idea: Wintertime in late 2013 and early 2014 we spent time having conversations regarding starting a company, what that company would look like and even investigating some different avenues. The Name: March 2014 the name DataCom Technologies was hatched. We wanted people to think of this company whenever it was born as a company that specialized in Data and Communications, thus DataCom. The Plan: The plan came in March of 2014 as well, we originally thought about a alarm and data connection company and wrote a rather extensive business plan. This planned was shelved as I changed jobs twice in the following 4 months and landed in a job that was both fantastic and agonizing. The Desert: This was my time at the very last place I plan to be an employee. Though it was a wonderful job I found myself thirsty for...

Details Matter

I have been called a perfectionist in the past and I own that with all the positive and negative attributes. However last week I again sited another example where attention to detail really makes a difference! The detail was a detail, 1 tenth of an inch detail. What could be that particular in my line of work you may wonder. I do not manufacturer products but I do sell specialty products to consumers. Particularly electronic parts for smartphones and computers. Last week we launched our retail store in my hometown to increase exposure to the community. A great emphasis it put on the extras, screen protectors and cases in addition to the ever expanding repair service.  So what did 1 tenth of and inch have to do with this? Screen protectors which are my favorite product to sell outside of repair service are a big seller. And after having a great issue sourcing one popular manufacturers flagship tempered glass screen protector I was delighted to be able to carry it in the new retail...

Positions

I have only been a father less than 8 months now and it amazes me the types of positions that my son has already put me in. Though I can only imagine what will come in the future the following is what has already become a reality. 1. Raging Lunatic This really isn't his fault but happened because of him. During my wife's 3 day labor I turned into a raging lunatic because of my own expectations of the hospital and even going so far as to call the Dr's Emergency line to get a hold of my Dr. during the labor. It was an incredibly stressful time and I don't regret being crazy because it is what you do. However I will hopefully be calmer if this comes around again. 2 . Stereo Typical Parent on Social Media Go check out my facebook, or my instagram there are hundreds of pictures and videos of my Baby. And why do I do this? It is because my Baby is cute and everyone has to see that! Though I was the person who was just incredibly annoyed by your babies pictures all over my...

Why Backing up saves so many headaches

Image
I received a call from a customer last week telling me their car was broken into. Now this is not a usual call I receive and further into the story they told me the very computer I worked on here in our shop had been stolen. To give you some more context we did a major rescue on this particular computer of files and pictures. However my customer found themselves back in the same situation that they were in when they brought their computer to me almost 1 year ago. They could not access their files now because a thief has stolen their computer. More than likely they will never see the computer again. And even though insurance was taking care of the cost of the computer, the family photos and college essays were gone. Or were they? Well that was the real purpose of this call. You see since we did the major rescue of the files we keep a copy of them for a limited time on our servers here at DataCom. And upon investigation we actually still had a copy of the files and are able to restore ...

Your Iphone may have a Disease!

Image
If you own an Iphone 6 your phone could have Iphone Touch Disease     Ew! What is that? Is it contagious? 1. It is not something that humans can get, only Iphone 6's get this disease . It is most common in Iphone 6 plus. Iphone 6 does not have as many cases reported. Iphone 6S series can get Touch disease but it is not as common. 2. It is not contagious , Iphone touch disease is not a virus that can be passed from phone to phone. Iphone Touch Disease is a hardware problem. That means something inside your phone is sick. 3. Can it be cured? Yes Iphone Touch Disease can be cured. DataCom has a method than can solve Iphone Touch Disease for much less than replacing your Iphone. Not all Phones can be cured with our process. Sometimes Iphones need to have the chip that is defective "micro-soldered" . Micro-soldering is not a service that is offered by DataCom and if your Iphone needs,micro-Soldered.it has to be sent to a specialty shop. On most devices they w...

Being a partial stay at home Dad

Image
So since starting this Blog I have yet to get any comments posted so do me a favor sound off on this topic today for me. Let me know you read and follow me please? Since the end of August I have been what many call a "Stay at Home Dad". In no way am I an expert on this subject, rather I now have perspective and here are my thoughts. 1. I'm in the up and coming There is a move towards more stay at home Dads, it is taking on many forms. Such as in my situation where I have a home business and raise my son. Check out this article from 2015 about stay at home Dads accounting for 1.9 million men in america and rising. In my own state 13% of stay at home parents were men. I cannot find a stat for this year but I am sure it had to go up some because I wasn't a dad officially this time last year and I didn't join the ranks until this year. We are are a small but up and coming population. 2. Give us some credit! Hey culture doesn't really make this easy today. ...

Note 7 is dead but not Samsung

I am sure if you have been watching any news recently you have heard about the Samsung Note 7 "Catching Fire" . Which has nothing to do with the Hunger Games. The Note 7 is catching on fire and even caused significant damage to an airplane a few weeks ago.  Note 7 catches plane on fire Now Samsung said they had it under control and issued replacement phones. But the airplane fire proved it was not. As of today, Note 7 is off the market. If you know me and have asked what Smartphone I recommend I always say anything Samsung. And I will continue to stand by that. However the Note 7 is dead. It will not be coming back to market. Samsung has known that the Note 7 is dead and they are not going to try to revive it.  Basically the Note 8 will be the next model. Samsung did not even bring the Note 7 to CTIA this year, every thing was about the S7. And even if Samsung tries to bring it back the public will not accept it. I could see Samsung releasing a S7 plus with a 5.7" or l...

Mark 10:32-45 Sermon Notes

The Example of a good leader Mark 10:32-45 Introduction Today's message is a look at what a leader is, and more particularly what is a good leader. What does a leader look like? Answer can be as simple as someone who holds an office of importance. Our mayor (Alan Andreani) is a leader. Ron is a leader, he is our "Lead Pastor". What makes someone a leader? Many are in leadership because of the position they hold how much money they have, or even what family they were born in to. Many people have asked the question "who is a better leader" in regards to the current presidential race. On Monday if you had nothing better to do you might have watched the debate between the 2 candidates, they both are trying to prove they are a good leader. Although it seems neither has really convinced anyone they are a "good" leader but rather they have spent most of their time convincing voters they are better than their counterpart. Politicians... Misplaced Trust

Wow what a busy Summer so far. I did not mean to neglect this blog this long. This Summer I have been rather taken aback by the fear in everyone. Perhaps people have always been this fearful and I did not notice. I'm not sure if I have really risen above the level of fear most people have or if I am just more aware of my fears and more aware of others fears as well? The most common fears this Summer seems to be who will lead the US in January 2017. I don't care much for politics but its hard not to when everyone talks about it. Why is this such a big deal? People fear their guns are going to be taken away or terrorist will attack us. And it is important that the right person lead us so we are safe with these matters. And these are legitimate fears. I can't say that I haven't considered what to do in the event of a terrorist attack in my own city. It seems possible anywhere you go these days. However I believe the reason you should rest easy is because of Jesus. If y...

Focus

It seems so common yet so annoying when I ask someone "how are you?" they respond "been busy" or something along those waves lengths. No that being busy is wrong or that your busyness is in anyway offensive to me. However it seems that if you are busy you are doing the right thing no matter what that is. We are all busy, my days are jammed packed with busyness. But I would rather say I am focused. Everything I do I try to do with a purpose in mind not just a mind to be busy. Back when I was a door to door salesman the common thing I heard around the office was  "Activity breeds success"  and there is truth in that saying, you gotta go do something. Are you doing the right thing. Many people are busy chasing after the wrong things. And its not that they do it on purpose many people chase exactly what they think they want but they end up with the wrong thing. No this is not some highly intellectual post, its just my thoughts, Be sure you are focused on the ...

Social Media Good and Bad Times to Post

Image
So I am no expert on Social Media I do not pretend to be either. Though I am often asked by many of my clients on how to use social media, when to post ect. A lot of what I do is teach people how to use social media and less management. In fact truth be told DataCom's facebook account is not solely managed by me. A big Shout out to my colleague and marketing guru Bethany for all her hard work with DataCom't Facebook. When she starts her social media company I will be sending all of you to here for your social media questions! Until then I will continue to provide resources in the best way I can. I found this cool graphic below that I want to leave here. I hope the owner will not be to upset as I am using it as a resource and hope to pass it along to others. I do not know who the owner is so if you are the owner please let me know so I can credit you!  Please comment and let me know what you think. -Nate

Stop Network Marketing for Business Leads

What is the Magic of Network Marketing? It is the desire that we all as humans desire relationships. Here is what I have learned works when it comes to network marketing. 1. Get out! Don't hang around the office, you are not going to market very well from the office. Sure you can buy advertising at the office and get them to come to you but that is not network marketing. 2. 3rd place marketing Network marketing is a 3rd place marketing. What do I mean by that? Simply this; everyone has a home that is the 1st place many advertisers try getting buyers there via tv, mail and so on. 2nd place is someones work or school, so you can gain clients via your coworkers, or by calling decision makers. Network marketing is 3rd place marketing. Meeting people at church, at the bar, at a Chamber after hours. These are what we call 3rd place. The third place is where you go to talk about the other 2 places. 3. Be Memorable No one likes a boring person, and no matter who you or what you do y...

First Fruits

A couple of years ago I was in a place where this concept scared me more than anything. Not because of what scripture tells us but in the way that I did not think I could afford giving my first fruits. What follows is simply my testimony of my journey thus far in this area. I write as someone who has not made it I am still trying to get this down. I hope it helps you. First Fruits What does this mean? If you look back in Genesis 4 the first mention of the idea of first fruits is made. Cain and Abel in the well known story Cain kills his brother. But why? Well because Cain did not give his best to the Lord and Abel did. Seems pretty petty to kill someone over, I mean Cain still had his best, but what Cain lacked was favor scripture says. Now if you read Malachi which is the last book in the old testament and if you do read the whole book in one sitting it makes more sense. Here you find God very upset because his people are not giving him their first fruits, the best they have. He ...

Facts about the Windows 10 Auto Update

Today I am writing a post about the Windows 10 auto update. There have been several customers of mine in the last few weeks that have had an issue where Windows 10 automatically updated on their system with no warning at all. Some have felt violated, and voiced anger towards Microsoft because of this. Here are the facts. 1. You are allowing it. By having your automatic updates on Microsoft is sending the Windows 10 update to your 7 or 8 installation. 2. You will have to update your system at some point.  Lincoln Spector in PC world issues August 2014 stated that windows will stop supporting Windows 7 in January 2020. So you have about 3 and half years to make any decisions. And if you have Windows 8 you have until January 2023 , so another almost 7 years on that. 3. All your files will be OK, but no guarantees on your apps. Now I have had some issues with the update losing some things the big issues is that your applications may not work. This is my biggest concern with th...

Day 1

I don't call this day day 1 because this is my first blog. In fact I used to write quite often several years ago. I think I fell out of habit because of fear of what people thought of me or whatever else moves on to not write. So what is day 1? Today is day one because today I am self employed once more. Simple as that. So as a CEO of myself once again I think it is important to write and share my thoughts. So this blog will consist of my thoughts regarding the world, spirituality, technology, and whatever else flows through. So what is day1? We all get day one more than once but we only get day 1 once. The first day you started dating, the first day you started school. Day 1 is not usually pretty, but without day 1 , day 2 and day 1000 will never come. Today is day 1 for me in a new chapter in my career, I have had chapters before this, and there will be many after this.   I have to reflect some on other day 1 's I have had. One of the most recent was when my son was bo...
