Being a partial stay at home Dad
So since starting this Blog I have yet to get any comments posted so do me a favor sound off on this topic today for me. Let me know you read and follow me please?
Since the end of August I have been what many call a "Stay at Home Dad". In no way am I an expert on this subject, rather I now have perspective and here are my thoughts.
1. I'm in the up and coming
There is a move towards more stay at home Dads, it is taking on many forms. Such as in my situation where I have a home business and raise my son. Check out this article from 2015 about stay at home Dads accounting for 1.9 million men in america and rising. In my own state 13% of stay at home parents were men. I cannot find a stat for this year but I am sure it had to go up some because I wasn't a dad officially this time last year and I didn't join the ranks until this year. We are are a small but up and coming population.
2. Give us some credit!
Hey culture doesn't really make this easy today. In fact our culture doesn't really give dads or kids a chance. We are supposed to have "professionals" raising our kids. Dads and Moms staying home are showing their kids what it takes everyday to make a household happen. We don't rush our kids off to daycare so we can rush off to work to rush back to pick them up. Our kids have a much better home life because they get to be home!
3. We are actually all business owners!
I don't really think we all run businesses in the traditional sense. I do, I run two, 1 my household business and 2 my Computer repair business. Like any savvy business owner we run the cost analysis and have determined that $800 per month is a lot of money for infant daycare. In my particular situation. I gave myself a $21,000 raise per year to start my business! Take that!
Good job stay at home parents even if you don't have a business or a multi-level you are running you have figured out the economics.
4. We have healthier kids
I have no research to support this so don't beat me up (but leave a comment). However my child does not have to deal with the sicknesses that other kids bring to daycare and he has me completely dedicated to his health all day long rather than one person herding ten or so kids around.
Final thought on this:
I am not home all day everyday. I have alot of driving that involves my baby hanging in the car seat and in strangers offices. However the days spent with him are not long and I would not trade them for anything else. My Son will soon be off to school and I will be the lone wolf once again. If you are a stay at home dad/ mom good job! You got this! Got a job on top of the kid job. Good job again. You got this, we got this!
